The Team

An analog design team at the Boston-area design center, working alongside layout designers, AMS verification, and product and test engineering. You report to the analog design manager.

The challenge

A precision ADC sub-block that holds its linearity across corners in simulation still has to hold it on real silicon, on the bench, across temperature. Monte Carlo said the mismatch budget closes. The bandgap drifts anyway, and the datasheet number with your name behind it has to be the number the part hits in production test.

Role overview

Block-level analog design from architecture trade-offs to silicon: amplifiers, bandgap references, bias circuits, and data converter sub-blocks, designed at the transistor level in Cadence Virtuoso and simulated in Spectre across corners and Monte Carlo. You supervise IC layout rather than doing it, run post-layout extraction simulations, and take your blocks through silicon bring-up, characterization, and lab evaluation until the datasheet specifications are real numbers. Precision is the discipline: noise, mismatch, linearity, stability and compensation.

Technical requirements

  • MSEE, or BSEE with equivalent transistor-level design depth
  • 7+ years in analog/mixed-signal circuit design at the transistor level
  • Fluency in Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, and the Cadence Analog Design Environment
  • Track record with corner simulations, Monte Carlo analysis, and precision metrics: noise, mismatch, linearity
  • Working command of feedback theory, system stability, and dominant pole compensation, including CMRR/PSRR analysis
  • Two or more tape-outs with silicon bring-up and characterization responsibility

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with LDOs, oscillators, PLLs, or high-voltage interfaces
  • Familiarity with Verilog-A models for mixed-signal co-simulation alongside the verification team
  • Exposure to AEC-Q100 qualification and ISO 26262 for automotive products
  • Background with magnetic sensor interfaces, power management ICs, or DC-DC converters (BUCK/BOOST)

Key responsibilities

  • Architect, implement, and analyze trade-offs of analog blocks: amplifiers, comparators, bandgap references, bias circuits, and ADC/DAC sub-blocks
  • Conduct corner simulations, Monte Carlo analysis, noise analysis, and reliability checks in Spectre and ADE-XL
  • Supervise IC layout and verify blocks with post-layout extraction simulations ahead of tape-out
  • Participate in silicon bring-up, characterization, and lab evaluation, and troubleshoot integrated circuit problems in the laboratory
  • Validate datasheet specifications via top-level simulations, and author and review product datasheets
  • Analyze electromigration, self-heating, ESD, and SOA constraints on blocks in BCD and CMOS process technologies

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $158,000 - $170,000
  • Annual bonus target 10%
