Contract Data Center Electrical Designer

The challenge

Three concurrent data center projects are in the CD phase simultaneously. The electrical design team needs a designer who can produce construction-quality electrical drawings without constant engineering direction.

Role overview

You produce construction document sets for data center electrical systems -- one-line diagrams, panel schedules, branch circuit layouts, grounding plans, and lighting plans. Working from engineering calculations and markups to deliver Revit models and drawing sets that contractors can build from.

Specializations

Technical requirements

• Associate degree in drafting/design technology, or equivalent experience
• 6+ years of electrical drafting experience, with 3+ years in data centers or mission-critical
• Expert Revit MEP skills including family creation and template management
• Ability to read and interpret power systems one-line diagrams and protection coordination studies
• Experience producing permit-ready and construction-ready drawing sets
• Working knowledge of NEC and applicable data center electrical standards

Key responsibilities

• Produce construction document sets for data center electrical systems using Revit MEP
• Develop one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and branch circuit layouts from engineering calculations
• Model electrical rooms, cable tray routing, and conduit runs in 3D Revit
• Coordinate electrical models with mechanical and structural disciplines to resolve clashes
• Update drawings through the RFI process during construction administration
• Maintain drawing specifications and Revit templates for the data center practice group

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly rate: $70-90/hour ($145,600 - $187,200 annualized)
• 12-month initial term with renewal option
