The Team

A navigation team inside the autonomy software org, alongside perception and fleet orchestration. You report to the Director of Autonomy.

The challenge

A new customer site goes live and the floor breaks a mapping assumption nobody wrote down. Localization confidence drops on a dozen robots overnight and the fleet telemetry says it is getting worse. The fix is not a demo. It is a change to the SLAM software that has to hold across 100+ robots per site and a 500+ robot fleet without regressing the sites that already work.

Role overview

Navigation software ownership on a production AMR fleet: SLAM, localization, and motion planning running in live customer aisles, not in a lab. The work is extending the capabilities of the SLAM software, improving localization performance where real floors break mapping assumptions, and deploying motion planning algorithms in real-world applications, held to fleet-scale regression metrics. C++ and Python on ROS2, simulation in Gazebo, and telemetry from the deployed base telling you whether the change actually helped.

Technical requirements

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related engineering field
  • 6+ years in robotics software, with navigation subsystem ownership on deployed robots
  • Strong C++ and Python on ROS2
  • Depth in SLAM, localization, and mapping, including sensor fusion, odometry, and the navigation stack
  • Working knowledge of motion planning and graph search methods: A*, RRT, PRM
  • Experience shipping and supporting navigation features on a production fleet, with telemetry-driven debugging

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with multi-agent pathfinding and task allocation at fleet scale
  • Exposure to controller design: PID, Pure Pursuit, LQR, or model-predictive control
  • Experience with visual SLAM or object tracking
  • CUDA experience for accelerating real-time planning workloads

Key responsibilities

  • Extend the capabilities of the SLAM software: mapping, multi-robot mapping, and life-long mapping across customer sites
  • Improve localization performance where odometry, LiDAR, and costmap assumptions degrade on real floors
  • Design and optimize navigation and mobility controls algorithms: motion planning, path planning, and trajectory optimization
  • Develop autonomous recovery behaviors and collision avoidance for live-aisle operation
  • Create simulation and modeling tools in Gazebo, and build the regression suites that gate navigation releases against fleet metrics
  • Support production deployments, shipping navigation features across customer sites at fleet scale

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $165,000 - $178,000
  • Stock options (Series C company)
  • Annual bonus target 10%
