Firm Topology

A robotics company deploying autonomous mobile robots for warehouse fulfillment. The fleet has deployed over a thousand units across multiple customer sites.

The Team

The integration and reliability team has eight engineers covering integration, reliability, and test. Director of Integration & Reliability is the direct report. The broader engineering org spans mechanical, electrical, software, and cloud across 150+ engineers.

The challenge

The fleet crossed a thousand deployed units and reliability is now the constraint, not capability. Mean time between intervention needs to improve significantly before the next customer deployment contract can close. The failures live in the seams between mechanical, embedded, and cloud — you have to be in the seams to fix them.

Role overview

Hands-on cross-subsystem integration on a deployed AMR fleet. You debug failures that span mechanical, embedded, and cloud in production. You commission new customer sites, execute the integration test program that catches cross-subsystem regressions before they reach the field, and own the fleet reliability metrics — MTBI, uptime, field failure rate. When a field failure spans three subsystems, you drive the root cause analysis on the floor with the units in front of you, not from a conference room.

Specializations

Technical requirements

  • BS in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
  • 7+ years hands-on integration, deployment, or field reliability work on multi-subsystem robotics or automation platforms
  • Direct experience standing up multi-robot deployments at scale (100+ units) at customer sites, including acceptance testing and go-live support
  • Working knowledge of ROS 2 architecture and real-time middleware sufficient to debug across the stack
  • Hands-on debugging across mechanical, embedded firmware, and cloud — comfortable with hardware-in-loop benches, on-vehicle bring-up, and on-call rotation for production issues
  • Familiarity with warehouse or logistics automation workflows

Key responsibilities

  • Integrate mechanical, embedded, and cloud subsystems on new robot generations and bring them up on the hardware-in-loop benches and on production units
  • Execute the system-level integration test program covering integration, performance, soak, and field test categories — author the test plans because you have run the tests
  • Diagnose and resolve cross-subsystem field failures through root cause analysis with customer-site units, then close the loop with the responsible engineering teams
  • Commission new customer-site deployments end to end and own the acceptance test results that gate go-live
  • Own the fleet's reliability outcomes — MTBI, uptime, field failure rate — and report them to engineering leadership
  • Co-own the interface contracts between mobile platform, embedded systems, and cloud platform engineering — your field experience informs the contracts the teams hold each other to, and you flag contract gaps when field failures expose them
  • Bring field-deployment insight to design reviews for next-generation robot hardware so the next platform is designed against the failure modes you have actually debugged

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $170,000 - $200,000
  • Equity (ISO stock options, 4-year vest)
  • Annual refresh grants based on performance
  • Home office stipend ($2,500)
  • Unlimited PTO with 3-week minimum usage expectation
