Firm Topology

Surgical robotics company building the next generation of minimally invasive surgical platforms. The system is in clinical trials at multiple hospital sites with FDA clearance expected.

The Team

Six vision engineers and three clinical validation specialists under the Head of Perception.

The challenge

Real-time tissue segmentation that runs on embedded GPU hardware while maintaining clinical-grade accuracy. The inference pipeline has to hit sub-30ms latency on a Jetson Orin without sacrificing the precision surgeons rely on.

Role overview

Computer vision algorithms that give surgeons enhanced visualization during robotic-assisted procedures. Stereo camera data, real-time tissue segmentation, depth estimation, and tool tracking -- all running on embedded hardware under strict latency and regulatory constraints.

Specializations

stereo visiontissue segmentationreal time inference

Technical requirements

  • MS or PhD in Computer Vision, Computer Science, or Biomedical Engineering
  • 5+ years developing computer vision systems, with 2+ years in medical or surgical applications
  • Experience with real-time inference on embedded platforms (TensorRT, ONNX Runtime)
  • Strong background in stereo vision, depth estimation, and 3D reconstruction
  • Proficiency in PyTorch and C++ for model development and deployment
  • Familiarity with medical device software development processes (IEC 62304)

Key responsibilities

  • Design and optimize real-time tissue segmentation models for stereo endoscopic cameras
  • Develop depth estimation algorithms that provide sub-millimeter accuracy in the surgical field
  • Implement tool tracking systems that distinguish between surgical instruments and anatomy
  • Optimize inference pipelines for deployment on embedded GPU platforms (NVIDIA Jetson Orin or custom)
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to define ground truth annotation protocols and validation metrics
  • Support regulatory submissions by documenting algorithm validation methodology and performance data

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $185,000 - $230,000
  • Stock options with 4-year vesting
  • Annual performance bonus (10-15%)
  • Health insurance with $0 employee premium
  • 3 weeks PTO plus 2 weeks company-wide shutdown
