The Team

Reports to the Controls Team Lead. Four controls engineers and two mechanical engineers collaborate on stage dynamics and controller design.

The challenge

The next-generation wafer inspection platform requires sub-10nm positioning accuracy across a 300mm travel range at scan speeds of 200mm/s. Current control algorithms need to close a significant gap to hit this target.

Motion control algorithms driving multi-axis stages in semiconductor inspection equipment. Servo loop tuning, feedforward controller design, and trajectory planning that maximizes throughput while maintaining nanometer-level positioning accuracy.

Technical requirements

  • MS in Controls Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years designing motion control systems for precision equipment
  • Strong background in classical and modern control theory (PID, state-space, H-infinity)
  • Experience with real-time motion control platforms (Beckhoff TwinCAT, Delta Tau, or ACS Motion Control)
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for control system design and analysis
  • Understanding of mechanical dynamics, vibration, and structural resonance

Key responsibilities

  • Design and tune multi-axis servo control systems for wafer handling and inspection platforms
  • Develop feedforward and feedback controllers that achieve sub-10nm positioning accuracy
  • Implement trajectory planning algorithms that optimize scan patterns for throughput
  • Characterize mechanical stage dynamics and develop compensating control strategies
  • Investigate vibration sources and design isolation strategies to mitigate disturbances
  • Program motion controllers using EtherCAT and proprietary real-time control architectures

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $185,000 - $220,000
  • Annual bonus (8-12%)
