Role overview

Airborne systems engineering for a fleet of fixed-wing drones operating BVLOS in the national airspace. Avionics, detect-and-avoid systems, and ground control station integration -- bridging the technical requirements with the regulatory framework.

Specializations

Technical requirements

• BS in Aerospace, Electrical, or Systems Engineering
• 7+ years in UAS engineering, with 3+ years on BVLOS programs and prior hands-on integration, flight test, or avionics bring-up experience before moving into a systems role
• Direct experience with FAA Part 107 waiver applications or Part 135 certification
• Understanding of RTCA DO-365 (DAA), DO-362 (C2 Link), and related UAS standards
• Experience with system safety analysis methods (FTA, FMEA, PSSA) under ARP4761 framework
• FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate

Key responsibilities

• Lead systems engineering for BVLOS drone operations including detect-and-avoid, command and control, and navigation
• Design and validate detect-and-avoid system architecture to meet FAA BVLOS waiver requirements
• Provide systems engineering inputs to safety assessments (FHA, PSSA, SSA) and coordinate with safety engineering on hazard classification per RTCA DO-178C and DO-254 standards
• Coordinate with the FAA on waiver applications and ongoing compliance documentation
• Define avionics integration requirements for sensors, compute, and communication systems
• Support flight test planning and data analysis for DAA performance validation

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary: $150,000 - $175,000
